π Sadly we've given up on trying to visit Cala'n Forcat and the surrounding area. We got moved on so decided to come to a place we know we are ok and welcomed.
π Globales Almirante Farragut were so unfriendly to us today. It's apparently their car park we were parked up in. They're closed and the area is empty now. We were doing no harm, just working in the Lorry and hoping to get some photos of the area and surroundings for our followers who enjoy seeing different places in Menorca.
π We often are asked about restaurants and hotels at the places we visit but definitely won't be recommending this hotel. The guy was so unfriendly and threatening us with the police and shutting us in the car park. We obviously moved on.
π We are still in the West side of the island of Menorca. We are parked near Cala en Bosc, and Son Xoriguer. A lovely spot with plenty of nice places to stay in friendly hotels and apartments if anyone is thinking of coming here next year. (More info under photos)
π For sunset we went to visit Torre des Castellar (Torre Santandria) It is one of the defense towers built by the British between 1799 and 1802 with the intention of defending the coves of the island and to support he Castle of Sant Nicolau, against a possible enemy landing (more info below photos)
π€ Tomorrow is a another day and hope we can get out there and explore some more.
Virtual hugs, Cat, Chris & Rolo ππΎππβ€οΈπβ€οΈπβ€οΈπβ€οΈ

Son Xoriguer is a beautiful day beach here in the South West coast. We do love it here.

It's about 9 kilometres Ciutadella. The Cap d'Artrutx the southwestern point of the island has the Lighthouse of Artrutx but it's closed today but opens in season. There is a beautiful marina in an artificial lake in Cala'n Bosche which is lovely (some photos from last year but will try to get back tomorrow) A nice hotel at the the beach and villas to let here in season.

Views today are lovely β£οΈ

South West coast of Menorca, the region of Ciutadella. There a lovely 20 minute walk along the Camil de Cavalls from Son Xoriguer Beach heading East to a smugglers cave called Pardals caves. There is a house located on the rock with stairs that are carved in the rock and go down into the cave. It used to be used by fisherman and was also for smuggling soap, coffee and tobacco in times of shortage after the war. I love it, what a special place, with spectacular views. Will go back hopefully next time but today too wet and thundery.

Lovely beach with lots of good snorkelling here.

Parked up in peace.

Caleta d'en Gorries or sa Caleta is two kilometers from Ciutadella, between Torre des Castellar (18th century watchtower and from where you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views) and Cala Santandria, very close to the Cala Santandria urbanization. (Menorca.es 2022)

This arm of the sea is characterized by the residences that are nearby, a sandy slope, a steep coast, low cliffs crowned with vegetation, exposure to South-West β West winds, a light breeze, calm waters , clean and transparent, a gentle slope, as well as a large influx of bathers, islanders and tourists in season, but now it's quiet.

Caleta d'en Gorries or sa Caleta is one of the defense towers built by the British between 1799 and 1802 with the intention of defending the coves of the island as support for the Castle of Sant Nicolau, against a possible enemy landing.

Opposite the Caleta d'en Gorries is a little defence tunnel built into the cliffs

Rolo outside while we take a look inside the tunnel

He couldn't jump down into it like us π€£

Views from the tunnel

Inside

Still he can't get in.

Need to get back here for a swim and snokel when the weather is a little better β£οΈ

Caleta d'en Gorries or sa Caleta is two kilometers from Ciutadella, between Torre des Castellar (18th century watchtower and from where you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views) and Cala Santandria, very close to the Cala Santandria urbanization. Concretely, this corner of the coast was formed on the right side of the mouth of Cala Santandria (North - Northeast area), and its name of "caleta" reflects its reduced dimensions.

It has a circular floor plan and a frustoconical body. It is surrounded by a moat about 6 m wide and by an embankment built with unbound stones.
The tower, built with stone and mortar, is then lined with an exterior facing of regular sandstone blocks. Unlike other defense towers, its access is through a corridor located underground that joins the ground floor with the counterscarp gallery located under the embankment.
The tower also has a set of 12 loopholes located on the ground floor that should have been used to defend the construction against a possible enemy attack by land.

Its height is 8 meters and the parapet of the terrace protrudes circularly around it. One or two pieces of artillery could be installed on the terrace, and when found sunken, seen from the sea it went completely unnoticed by enemy ships, giving the sensation of being a small fort, which made it much more dangerous and effective.

Down into the tunnel

An old photo of Cala'n Bosche. We will try to return again tomorrow
