Florry the Lorry - Facebook Wednesday 17th April 2024

π Our Unexpected Home Away from Home. Three years ago, we stumbled upon a hidden gem here at Thai Menorca , and it's become our cherished haven since then. Every year, this time brings us back for some lorry maintenance on this beautiful private land. Today for the 2nd time we were lucky enough to celebrate Thai New Year here again.
π Our connection and friendship began when we were supposed to head home for Christmas in 2020. With lockdowns looming in the UK, we found solace here amidst curfews and open Balearic travel. Thanks to Yvonne Ford-Cross warm hospitality we were not alone for Christmas and spent Christmas with her family and welcomed with open arms. However, in the new year we were tired of the road, craving some of our own space for Rolo, and missing home lots.
π In a moment of vulnerability on social media, I shared our van life realities about vanlife not always about living the dream. That's when Werner messaged, offering us a place to rest. Skeptical about our lorry fitting, he quickly proved us wrong. After I emailed back saying I didn't think we would probably fit on the land, he came to find us. He turned up and said we would fit and more than welcome to stay. Soon, we found ourselves welcomed onto this land, feeling privileged. It was a much-needed break, and the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
π But! The story doesn't end there. For years, I searched for a place from my childhood visits to Menorcaβa restaurant with a pool, etched in my memory. After sharing photos with Werner, he revealed that Thai Menorca was that elusive spot! It was a serendipitous discovery, making this place feel like a true home away from home.
πOver the years, we've done much of our maintenance and renovation on Florry. From a recycled bath found by luck to rust repairs and even painting the lorry, this land has seen it all.
π Celebrating Thai New Year with Werner and Nina, painting the lorry's exterior, and enjoying Easter traditions with Rolo sneaking eggsβit's been a whirlwind of memories.
πΎRolo, adores this place and so do we. Here, he's free to roam, collarless and carefree, in a land where he can't escape and in nature. And for us, it's a sanctuary of peace and productivity.
πThank you Werner doesn't seem enough. Your kindness and this land have become integral to our journey. Every visit feels like coming home, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the warmth of friendship.
π·Swipe through the photos to see our journey here over the last three years, the renovations we've tackled, and the memories we've made. Here's to the beautiful souls we meet along the way.

The land has changed lots since we first came here . It's all been cleared and we are no longer squeezed between bushes.

Rolos first encounter with the chickens. He ignores them now

Thai delivery to the lorry . It was absolutely delicious and since then we go when we can and we also order frozen Currys to take back to the UK with us . Best Thai we've ever had !

Feeding time for the chickens

Very content and relaxed each and every time we visit here

Old fridge that broke down a few years ago. Since we've got a new one a full size house fridge freezer and more solar too

Old drawers and bed was lower then we made it higher and this week lowers it again π€·ββοΈ

Tortilla cooking 2 years ago

Painted myself as well as the toilet.

All painted. Below more photos of what it used to look like.

Outside of florry painted and looking very white. This was a few years ago she needs another paint. She's since had new solar panels and the roof rubberised when we had all the leaks

Also painted the outside and took off all the decals . Have to admit. Chris did most of it and I touched up here and there

Old photo with the decals still on

Our toilet needs a paint again. Maybe a chore this summer π€·ββοΈ

Old toilet was painted by a friend but it started to get bashed about and paint cracking so painted it white

Rolo loves Nin

Last year's Thai New year's celebrations β€οΈ

Last year the big project of putting in the bath

Worth the hard work.

La Boyera when we are here in 1975

This is what it used to be like

Today Florry has changed a lot and much of the changes have been done here on private land thanks to Werner helping us by letting us stay here when we need to.

Thank you Werner and Nina you're stars!
