πWow we really do have some adventures and not always the best type.
πDespite the grey skies, yesterday we ventured off to Riano to conquer the biggest swing in Spain. Clouds obscured our pics, but the walk up was still worth it. Then, a detour into our next destination led to a nerve-wracking drive up the mountains, narrowly avoiding cliff edges.
πWe came across a Mirador and saw a dirt track that looked like it would lead to a good parking spot so decided to try it. Oh how wrong we were. After 2ks of bumping along the road it became thinner, and awful dips in the roads made by water flowing down the mountains were becoming more frequent. We decided we should try and head back rather than continue as the back end of the lorry was regularly grounding into the floor over the big dips. Turning around was a real feat on the mountain gravel slippery road with sheer drops on one side. Thankfully, the lorry has a very good turn. I got out and helped Chris to make sure we didn't fall off the cliff edge. It was really scary and really not fun. He did it after about a 20 point turn and we are safe and sound to tell the story. What a star he is!
πTaking the 'off the beaten path' doesn't always get us to a beautiful location. This time it got us nowhere but a little tired and stressed out. We continued our journey back down the mountain encountering a herd of cows who were adamant not to move. That was so cute and we had lots of fun with Rolo growling and asking them to move. 15 minutes later they moved and we could continue down the road. We found an aire in Posada de ValdeΓ³n which was lovely. Only 15 euros for the night. We got a refill of water and there is electric hook up available too, hot showers and toilets too. Also a lovely little traditional mountain village. Will post more about there tomorrow.
π₯ What a day We had yesterday. We spent the night cozied up in our home, rain pouring outside, reliving our misadventures in front of the fire. Come early evening the sun tried to come out and the skies turned an amazing colour. We filmed a bit of our adventure so will add it to our video in part 2 of Spain May 2024. Part 1 going up tonight. Some lovely and not so nice memories made yesterday.
Love & Peace, Cat, Chris & Rolo πππππΎ
